The Viaduc des Arts is a 19th-century railway viaduct, transformed into a unique place dedicated to art and crafts. It’s a series of shops (1,5-kilometre-long) located beneath the Promenade Plantée, in the arches of the former viaduct. The Viaduc des Arts is also the focal point of a few organisations promoting art and crafts, as well as supporting artists.
The Viaduc des Arts was inaugurated in 1859 as part of the railway line that once linked Paris with Saint-Maur. The line ceased operation in 1969 and the viaduct fell into disrepair. In the 1980s plan were made to revitalise the area, and the viaduct was remodelled to house shops and workshops, with the famous Promenade Plantée atop it.
