U Ziyada is a café and a restaurants located in the Przegorzały Castle. The restaurant has spacious, bright interiors, a dance hall and a terrace. It offers maily Polish cuisine but there are also some other European dishes available. The café is situated in the basement and serves tasty coffee and colourful desserts. As there is a lot of greenery around the place, the observation decks are quite an attraction during warmer months.
The castle was built during World War II and is one of the few examples of the Third Reich’s architecture in the city. It was originally meant to be a sanatorium for the Nazis, but the liberation of Krakow thwarted these plans. After the war the castle hosted one the branches of the Forestry Ministry. Since 1970s it is home to two institutions of the Jagiellonian University.
When the weather is good, you can see the Tatra Mountains from the castle’s observational decks.
