The Théâtre des Variétés is a theatre at the Boulevard Montmartre. It has two halls, the Petite Salle and the Grande Salle. The maximum capacity of the latter is 800 people. Theatre rents its space for various seminars and conventions. It was declared a National Heritage Site in 1975.
It was created by theatre director Mademoiselle Montansier. She was imprisoned for debt in 1803 and 3 years later ordered to leave the Théâtre du Palais-Royal with her troupe. Unhappy about having to leave, Montansier gained an audience with Napoleon himself and got his help. Soon, she found a new theatre, which was inaugurated on 24 June 1807.
