The Israeli Embassy in France is the diplomatic representation of the State of Israel to the French Republic. Its ambassador is, since 2010, Yossi Gal. With 42 diplomats working in the embassy in 2005, it was one of the biggest Parisian diplomatic posts in relation to the population represented.
The post was previously located at 143 avenue de Wagram, at the junction with Rue Ampere, in the 17th arrondissement. Because of that, the nearby square was named place d’Israël. The embassy moved to its current location in 1973.
On May 23, 2002, much of the embassy was destroyed by an accidental fire. The premises were completely renovated with office walls being made of Jerusalem stone. One can also admire several replicas of ancient mosaics, including that of the Synagogue ‘Shalom Al Yisrael’ in Jericho, which figures prominently in the lobby.
