The Palais de Tokyo is a centre for modern and contemporary art. Its eastern wing hosts the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris), while the western one houses the Palais de Tokyo – Site de creation contemporaine, an establishment dedicated to all forms of modern creativity.
Constructed for the International Exhibition of Arts and Technology of 1937,the museum was opened in 1961. Its impressive collections contain over 8000 works illustrating various trends of the 20th-century art, including works by Picasso, Matisse, Léger, Braque, Picabia, Modigliani, Chirico, Kupka, Gris, Arp, Giacometti, Klein, Rauschenberg, Höch.
The Pavillon is a studio and laboratory space dedicated to contemporary creativity in the visual arts. Each year about ten artists and curators from around the world are invited there to work, learn and explore the limits of their artistic pursuits.
