The Musée national Eugène Delacroix is an art museum dedicated to painter Eugène Delacroix (1798-1863). It is located in the 6th arrondissement at 6 rue de Furstenberg, Paris. The museum is situated in painter’s last apartment, which he had moved into almost six years before his death.
To prevent the building’s destruction, the Société des Amis d’Eugène Delacroix (Society of Friends of Eugene Delacroix) was formed in the late 1920s. It acquired the apartment, studio and garden about 25 years later and donated the property to the French government.
The apartment is the national museum for more than 4 decades and contains Delacroix’s memorabilia and works, exhibiting pictures from almost whole of his career.
Apart from the artworks there are also studio items, photographs of the artist at the end of his life, his correspondence, documents and ample library. The house is used for exhibitions, concerts, lectures and conferences.
