The Mosque was built in 1926 following the mudéjar style. During World War II, the mosque provided shelter, safe passage, and fake Muslim birth certificates for Jewish children.
La Grande Mosquée de Paris is located at bis Place du Puits de l’Ermite 2 between Place Monge and Censier – Daubenton metro train stations. It is supported by line M7. You can also reach there by bus 89 or 47.
It has one minaret that is 32 metres high. It was inaugurated by president Gaston Doumergue on July 15. That day Ahmad al-Alawi, an Algerian Sufi, led the first communal prayer at the newly built mosque.
