It is one of the six large terminus railway stations in Paris situated in the southeastern part of the city. Austerlitz has lost most of its long-distance south-western services since introduction of the TGV Atlantique that is served by Gare Montparnasse. The station is used by some 30 million passengers annually. It was built in 1840 and nowadays four new platforms are being constructed and all the existing tracks are being refurbished.
