Excel is an acronym of Exhibition Centre London. It is located on a 100-acre site on the northern quay of the Royal Victoria Dock in London Docklands.
The centre was built by Sir Robert McAlpine and its different wings were opened in 2000 and 2010. The exhibition building itself consists of halls of approximately 479,493 square feet. ExCeL London has hosted numerous consumer and trade, private and public events including exhibitions, conferences, concerts, weddings and religious celebrations.
ExCeL has adopted best practice initiatives such as reducing gas consumption, which was reduced in 2008 by 64% compared to 2006. Also in 2008, ExCeL London contributed more than £800 million to the London economy and was responsible for supporting 26,000 jobs.
This summer, ExCeL London will be host to 7 tournaments: boxing, wrestling, Judo, taekwondo, weight-lifting, table tennis, fencing.
