The Géode is a giant-screen cinema offering both IMAX® productions and virtual-reality films in 3D and real time. It shows mainly documentaries and natural history films, but also live broadcasts of cultural events.
The Planetarium will get you as close to the sky, the sun, the moon and the stars as you’ll ever be. It is equipped with high definition projectors which provide 30-minute theatre shows, supplemented by talks with astronomy specialists.
The Explora is a large exhibition space which houses both permanent and temporary expositions. It is divided into four sections: ‘Language and Communication’, ‘From the Earth to the Universe’, ‘The Adventure of Life’ and ‘Matter and the Work of Man’. It also offers room for temporary exhibitions and conferences.
Cinéma Louis-Lumière plays short, 15-minute 3D films, both documentaries and immersive productions. Shows begin every half hour from 11.00 to 12.00 and from 14.00 to 17.00 (18.00 on Sundays and during school holidays).
Cinaxe is a revolutionary venue which gives a new meaning to “motion pictures”. Not only the images on the screen are moving, but also the viewer gets jolted according to what’s going on in the film, thanks to a specially made motion simulator. Shows start every fifteen minutes.
Cité des Enfants is a perfect place for your child while you enjoy more grown-up attractions of the centre. Designed with child development in mind, it is divided into two areas: for 2-7 year-olds and for 5-12 year-olds. Both offer age appropriate, hands-on activities which will help your children acquaint themselves with science and technology.
The Argonaute submarine is the original French navy vessel. Launched in the 1950s, she travelled the globe ten times over. She is now open to public and available for closer exploration at the centre.
Cité des Metiers (Vocational Info) is a pro bono establishment which offers free advice on various work-related issues: finding a job, training, switching careers, self-employment. You can consult a career advisor on the spot.
Cité de la Sante (Health Info) is a place where you can get free information about health issues. Neither a medical facility nor a place to get a diagnosis, it is simply a wealth of knowledge for those with questions about their physical wellness.
Médiathèque houses a huge library of books, films, magazines, educational software, basically, all manner of sources of knowledge available free of charge.
La Villette Conference Centre is open for particular events.
Carrefour Numérique is a centre for learning all there is to know about multimedia. It provides tools as well as opportunity to practise your computer skills. It is free and open to everyone over 11.
The Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie is the biggest science museum in Europe. About 5 million people visit it each year. If you get tired of becoming smarter, you can recharge your batteries in a restaurant. There are also two bars, a café, a gift shop and a post office. Many features offered by the centre are free of charge.
