Built in 1954 as a municipal hospital, the Żeromski hospital constitutes a perfect example of socialist-realist architecture. The imposing frontage and monumental stairs that lead to the main pavilion resemble the forms of the Baroque. In front of the main entrance there is a bust of the hospital’s patron, writer Stefan Żeromski.
The construction of the hospital began in 1951 as one of first in post-war Poland. The location in the suburbs on Nowa Huta was chosen in order to isolate the patients from noise and heavy city traffic. Today, the hospital employs many notable specialists and provides complex health service.
