Piwnica pod Baranami (The Cellar under the Rams) is a Polish literary cabaret located in the basement of the Palace under the Rams. Created by Piotr Skrzynecki in 1956, it resides at its original location in the mediaeval Old Town district, at the Main Square.
At first, the facility was a meeting place for Krakow’s many students. The stage was formed by young artists performing in many different genres: writers, musicians, visual artists and actors, as well as their friends and faithful audiences. In the People’s Republic of Poland, it was the most renowned political cabaret in the country. Although Skrzynecki died in 1997, Piwnica pod Baranami continues.
