The Promenade Plantée, or the Coulée Verte is a park located on the old Vincennes railway line, which was transformed into an elevated walkway in the 1990s. It connects the Périphérique and the Place de la Bastille, and is 4.7 km long. In its western part, the Promenade Plantée crowns the Viaduc des Arts. Most of all, it is a place of beauty and tranquility in the heart of the metropolis.
Designed by landscape architect Jacques Vergely and architect Philippe Mathieux, the Promenade Plantée was the first elevated walkway in the world. It is planted with all types of trees, shrubs and herbs, among others, lavender, rose bushes, vines, bamboo, wisteria, cherry trees, maples, lime trees, etc. Which means it also smells nice.
