La Grande Arche de La Défense, or La Grande Arche de la Fraternité, is a 110-metre-tall structure which is the 20th-century equivalent of the Arc de Triomphe. It was designed by Johann von Spreckelsen and inaugurated in 1989 to celebrate humanity and humanitarian values. It is shaped like an almost perfect cube, albeit with its middle left open.
Located in the business district of Défense, La Grande Arche forms the western end of the Axe historique. It is also in line with the two highest buildings in Paris, the Tour Montparnasse and the Eiffel Tower, creating a secondary axe. The Arche houses government offices. You can take a lift to its roof and enjoy an excellent view of Paris. Also on its top there was Musée de l’Informatique (Computing Museum), however, it was closed for safety reasons.
